Mt. Shasta after about 12” of new snow.
Humbug Mountain State Park - South Coast, OR - a year or so ago, I stayed here with my sis and her bf on my way to Seattle for the first time. Probably have one of my best memories of camping here ever. Unfortunately, it was closed till April for maintenance, but still a beautiful place to see.
Made it to Smith Rock just outside Bend, OR after a brief tour of Puget Sound. Maybe a day of playing around climbing rocks is a good change from the snow.
Olympic National Park - hiked up (almost) to Lake Angeles before we headed down. Late start plus being a little fried after Rainier made a hotel a good choice for the night.
A chance for a winter summit of Rainier is a wait-and-see game of patience… Time wasn’t on our side. After post-holing in waist high snow and a few days of low vis and storms, we decended. As they say, the mountain will most likely be there next time, It’s only a volcano! The pic is from just below pan point on Tuesday morning.
Mt Rainier
We made it to Mt Rainier yesterday, stayed in Ashford to let a storm pass. 10” of new snow fell last night, so I imagine the conditions are pretty unstable.
Heading up the mtn today. Camp Muir tonight, look for a summit Monday, weather, will and avy conditions permitting. We will descend Tuesday before the next storm comes through. Definitely different going for it without guides. Lots more planning preparation required.
